Brandon....... just an FYI (without too many specifics). A good friend discovered this is not so easy in Quebec. In the end, I “bought” the bike in Ontario (using all the good information on this site), then when I had the Ontario Ownership, “sold” to my buddy in Quebec. Went very smoothly after that. I’ll be interested o hear what you discover.

One does NOT need an appraisal in Ontario for motorcycles.

I never needed one at the Madoc MTO.

For some reason they think you need one..Just tell you do NOT!

Just picked up a 1973 DNEPR MT9  with SIDECAR.  Question this bike is from Keiv in the Ukrainian. Was never registered in Canada was brought to Canada by a collector and bought though a local auction by me. The bike was used for shows and displays. It does run and drive. It was done up as a German era war related bike with the camo and badges from WW2. How hard will it be to get this bike registered for ALBERTA,  I will be taking it to a local bike shop for a safety inspection for out of province as well as a check on the whole bike for riding.  It has avian plate for the bike, but as I said the only paperwork I have is the bill.of sale from the auction company. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

As  ORIGINATING  message  says  "  KEEP  IT  SIMPLE  " ....

Write  a  BILL of  SALE  from  you  to  a  friend  saying  ...

    >  I sold  this  DNEPR  to  so  &  so  for  $  ...PAST  documentation is  lost  ...

***  THEN  ON AFFIDAVIT  HE  SAYS  ...

    >  I  bought  this  motorcycle  , 1973  green  DNEPR  600cc  VIN  ####### ,from  you  ....For   full price  of  $ ....Past  documentation  is  lost  ...My searches  found  no  history  ...I  am  now  the  legal  &  rightful  owner  of  this   motorcycle  ....

*** This  will work  to get  ownership  in   Ontario ...Which  then  it  can  be  transferred to  anyone  .....

*** DOT  NOT  MENTION  KIEV  or  OUT of COUNTRY    ... Do  exactly  as  affidavit  above  says  ...Anything  else  makes  it  too complicated  &  you  will have  to  jump  through  hoops  &  probably  get nothing  in  the  end   !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought a T120R in Ontario (without any papers) and did all the relevant searches to find the paperwork and came up with nothing. I live in Quebec and have tried the affidavit approach as described. 3 SAAQ's later I still do not have the bike registered and its very frustrating. Despite having the affidavit each outlet says I need to go back and get the original owner ship from the person I bought it from in Ontario. Today they told me to go and register it in Ontario first and then reregister it in Quebec - Any help much appreciated!

I found out recently that this procedure will not work in Quebec .

Long discussions with : the SAAQ licensing people in Montreal land Quebec City , the assistance of Surete de Quebec and Montreal police , contacts with " people who know " etc all resulted in a statement that a bike without papers cannot be registered in Quebec

The "Sell it to your mate in Ontario , who can register it and then sell it back to you as an Ontario bike, which can then  be registered in Quebec "loophole has also been closed . It seems that undocumented or non registered vehicles imported from outside Ontario can no longer be registered in the province .

Sadly there may be barns full of old bikes in Quebec which are only good for parts or scrap .

    Patrick Hiron ,

still looking for a rebuildable British ! basket case which could be registered

I have owned a 1969 Norton Commando since 1970. It was last registered (to me) in Alberta in 1983, and has been registered nowhere since. I don't have any paperwork, but of course I have the old style VIN and my last Alberta plate and year decal. Looking at the Alberta government website, I am at a loss on how to proceed. I only want confirmation of ownership, or (as they have in BC) registration that will allow me to start a renovation without risking it got getting registered when I am done.

Any ideas on how to proceed?
