It is with sadness that the family of Eric Gordon McNair of Lynden announces his peaceful passing on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the age of 79 years. Eric passed away in St. Peter's Residence at Chedoke, where he was cared for with compassion and kindness by the wonderful staff.
Eric is survived by his partner, Susan Fielding; his daughters, Andrea McNair (Bryan McCutcheon) and Erika McNair; his brother, Alex McNair (Anne Snider); his sister, Sheila McNair (Donna Eaton), and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Caroline McNair; his sister, Gill McNair; and his brother, Alan McNair.
Eric was a lifelong learner and educator, with a deep love of science and the natural world. He dedicated his career to inspiring young minds through his work with the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. He continued this passion into retirement, notably through his involvement with the Science Olympics, helping foster curiosity and appreciation for science in the next generation.
Beyond the classroom, Eric found joy in motorcycling and exploring new places. He was a member of the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group where he shared his enthusiasm for classic bikes and adventure. He loved singing in the choir at Christ Church Flamborough, where he was a lifelong member. He was also a member of the Masonic fraternity. He enjoyed reading science fiction (and Terry Pratchett's spoofs of that genre), and deep dives into history, particularly World War military strategy and armament.
Eric will be remembered for his sense of humour, his belief in lifelong learning, his willingness to lend a hand, and his unwavering love for his family and friends.
A memorial to honour Eric's life will be held at Christ Church Flamborough (Anglican), 92 Highway #8, Dundas, on Saturday, November 22nd, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to your favourite charity would be appreciated.
