The 2020 Paris National Rally
It’s April 8 and the health crisis here in Canada and around the world continues. Our elected leaders and health officials have made and continue to make recommendations on our behalf, choices that hopefully will protect us from this disease and transmitting it to others. Perhaps the most important of these provincial and federal initiatives is the directive to avoid large gatherings and congregations of people. Our national rally fits that category.
As you may imagine, it is painful for all of us on the Paris Rally Committee to have to wrestle with this situation and the necessary consequences. There is no margin for error where COVID-19 is concerned so today we are announcing the postponement of the 2020 national rally. We know it is the right decision for all parties concerned as we continue to social distance ourselves from each other. At this time there is no vaccine: contracting it could prove fatal.
Talks with the Paris Fairgrounds have been ongoing. As no other dates in this calendar year are suitable to our cause, the Committee is postponing the 48th National Rally until June 18-20, 2021. Further to this end, the planning and economics involved in this year’s event will remain in place to be used in 2021, a sound financial decision. Anyone who is already registered will be contacted and given choices about their registration.
While today’s decision applies to the National Rally, I expect each Section will be listening to the advice of local officials when making decisions about Section events.
