The Joseph Lucas Memorial Push

Saturday February 18

Old Fort York Section’s 23rd annual Joseph Lucas Memorial Push in downtown Toronto.

The Joseph Lucas Push starts at the Madison Avenue Pub - 14 Madison Avenue (Bloor and Spadina area in downtown Toronto).  Gathering at 7:00pm and move out at 8:30pm for the "Push".

The bike is trailered to the starting pub, and parked outside.  After much merriment, food and libations inside the pub, the group gathers on the sidewalk to push the bike to the next destination.  We usually manage to squeeze in a third stop before closing time and sometimes even a fourth.  Pushing a broken down motorcycle through the downtown core in the dead of winter with a large entourage certainly attracts curious looks from other city denizens.

The idea was the brainchild of the late OFY charter member, Harry Roberts – a true motorcycle enthusiast and all around great guy.  His idea was brilliant: as a remedy to the cabin fever suffered by bikers during the coldest and most depressing month of the year, why not have a social event and poke some fun at Joseph Lucas? Lucas was the owner of Lucas Electrical, the company which supplied parts for the somewhat troublesome electrical systems of British motorcycles and became known jokingly as “The Prince of Darkness”.

See you at the Madison.
